Electroencephalography (EEG)

Advances in the uses and technology of Electroencephalography (EEG) allow our neurologists the ability to non invasively monitor the brain's electrical activity to quickly and effectively diagnose a wide range of conditions such as epilepsy, vertigo, head injury, sleep disorders, dementia, and brain tumors.  Patients have the ability to be tested in our office, and even wear a head set like device home for monitoring over a longer period of time.  Our partnership with the hospital allows our physicians video-EEG access to combine with other data pertinent to each patient's electronic record.

Evoked Potentials

When multiple sclerosis and other neurological disorders are suspected, and a neurological examination does not provide enough evidence, one or more evoked potentials tests can be used a diagnostic tool. These non invasive tests utilize electrical impulses to record how quickly and effectively nerve signals are reaching the brain. Available tests include:

  • Visual Evoked Potentials (VEP) eyes are stimulated by looking at a test pattern
  • Auditory Evoked Potentials (AEP) stimulates hearing by listening to a test tone
  • Somatosensory Potentials (SSER or SSEP) stimulates the nerves located in the arms and legs
    by electrical pulse

Fundus Photography

Another diagnostic tool, the Fundus camera is a specialized microscope and retinal camera that can photograph the interior surface of the eye called the fundus. This area is the only site which microcirculation can be detected, and allows our physicians to diagnose disorders such as
multiple sclerosis.

NCV/EMG

Nerve Conduction Velocity Testing (NCV)

A test in which nerves are electrically stimulated to measure the electrical impulse, it is a great aid in detecting nerve damage.  Used in conjunction with Electromyography (EMG), NCV helps to diagnose or rule out muscle conditions.

Symptoms such as numbness, tingling and burning sensations may alert our physicians to order this test.
